Ottawa-Gatineau's population currently resides at 1,148,800 people and is projected to grow to 1,207,000 by 2010. Ottawa continues to demonstrate consistent population growth. The bulk of the population is between the ages of 20 and 60 years, with the most populous age group being between the ages of 40 and 44.
According to the 2001 Census, approximately 37% of the population can speak both official languages, approximately 61 per cent of residents speak only English and approximately 1.3 per cent speaks only French. Ottawa is a multicultural city with several languages spoken among its citizens.
