Ottawa's corporate community has a proud, rich history that can be traced back to the early efforts of a small group of companies.

According to Research Infosource, 27 of the Top 100 Corporate R&D Spenders in Canada, are companies established in Ottawa.  Additionally, 27 per cent of the total R&D expenditures from those top 100 companies is spent here in Ottawa. 

Ottawa is home to the R&D arms of several multinational companies including:  Abbott, Alcatel-Lucent, Avaya, Bell Canada, Ciena, Cisco, Ericsson, Genband, General Dynamics, Huawei, IBM Canada,  Lockheed Martin, Mitel Networks, and Nordion.
