Chinese Marketing Strategy Set to Attract Investment in
Ottawa
Ottawa
,
ON
, November 30, 2006
The Ottawa Global Marketing division of OCRI launched its official Chinese website today as part of a strategy to increase
Ottawa
s presence in the lucrative Chinese market and to attract investment to
Canada
s capital city. Interest in the Chinese market was invigorated this past September when
China
and
Canada
signed a memorandum of understanding to facilitate two-way trade and investment between the countries.
The website is a pivotal component in the Chinese marketing strategy being led by OCRI, and is part of a fully integrated communications campaign aimed at introducing
Ottawa
s industry sectors, business infrastructure, investment environment and support network to the Chinese market. Other elements in the campaign include promotional collateral and an online marketing video, produced using Chinese suppliers to ensure the campaign remained focused, localized and retained a Chinese look and feel.
The growth within
China
has encouraged a wave of outgoing Chinese investment that
Ottawa
cannot afford to miss, said Michael Darch. With a cutting edge high tech sector, educated work force and t
he
lowest R&D costs among of all t
he
G-8 countries,
Ottawa
is well positioned for
China
s Go Global investment strategy.
As a result of considerable pressure from the
U.S.
due to an imbalance of trade between the two countries,
China
initiated a Go Global economic policy, encouraging Chinese companies to actively look for business opportunities overseas. This poses great opportunities for the
Ottawa
region and its companies.
Within the last year weve seen a significant increase in interest from
China
, continued Michael Darch. The number of incoming delegations has quadrupled, and with Nortel having recently expanded their facilities to
Beijing
, we are confident that Chinese investors are seeing
Ottawa
as an attractive destination for business and investment.
To highlight t
he
series of opportunities within in t
he
Chinese market, OCRIs President Jeffrey Dale and Global Marketing Executive Director, Mike Darch, will lead a delegation of six Ottawa telecommunications companies to Hong Kong to participate in the Canada Pavilion at the ITU TELECOM WORLD 2006 Conference, next week, December 4-8. A series of media briefings within
China
will also be conducted to discuss
Ottawa
s latest efforts to strengt
he
n economic ties with
China
.
