The Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and OCRI invite you to join a trade mission to attend the 4th International Conference on Renewable Energy Investment and CDM in Santiago, Chile. In addition to attending the Conference itself, each participating company will have an individualized program of one-on-one meetings set up for them with key decision makers/potential customers/representatives in the market. The website for the 2009 Conference is: www.investchile.cl/energyconference
More than 180 companies from Canada, U.S. and Europe attended the 2008 Renewable Energy
Conference in Chile. If synergies are identified with delegates to the conference from other countries
we will also make every effort to include meetings with these delegates in the individual business
programs.
Chile is ranked the No. 1 Latin American country in which to do business and the 6th largest supplier of
CDM projects worldwide. Current investments in the energy sector amount to US$2.8 billion in projects
at different stages of development.
Chiles Renewable Energy sector is expected to expand significantly over the coming years. The
Renewable Energy law passed in 2008 establishes that at least 5% of all electricity must come from
renewable energy sources by 2010. This percentage must increase by 0.5% per year to reach an
overall goal of 10% in 2024. This new framework and higher energy prices has led Chile to develop
new incentives to promote investment in the sector.
Business Opportunities
Sectors currently identified by Chile for investment/development:
1. small hydro - up to 20mw
2. wind
3. biomass
4. geothermal (initial stages)
5. solar (first bid issued in 2009)
Mission Program
The Conference will take place on Sept. 7 and 8, with both these mornings taken up with plenary
sessions and workshops. Individual meeting programs will be set up for the afternoons of Sept 7 and 8,
with full day programs Sept. 9 and 10. We guarantee a minimum of 5 meetings/company during this
period.
On Wednesday Sept. 9th Ontario/Canada will host an Ontario Capabilities Networking Breakfast
with pre-qualified key contacts in this industry. Each of the Ontario participants will be allotted 10
minutes to present their products/services to the audience in a format that will allow for further
networking.
The Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Trade has a locally based business development
representative in Santiago, Chile. This firm has extensive knowledge of the renewable energy sector
and the key contacts in their market. All business programs will be developed by this in-market
representative.
